Scuba Classes

SSI Open Water Certification

For those non diving friends and family members who wish to learn to dive with us. Classes are held year long.

SSI Advanced Open Water Diver

Learn how to be a better diver, dive some of the deeper dives with us, and learn some specialty diving. 4 Specialty courses and 24 logged dives are required to become an Advanced Diver.

Specialty Certifications

EAN Nirox Diver

Enriched Air Nitrox - Dive with Enriched Air consisting of up to 40% Oxygen. Benefits are longer bottom time, shorter surface intervals between dives, lowers your risk of Nitrogen Narcosis, and decompression sickness, and gives you more energy after the dives.

Boat Diving Specialty

Some of us dive from boats all the time. But there are a lot of divers who have never dive from a boat and find there are lots of procedures, entries, and techniques to learn about diving from a boat. There is anchor diving and drift diving available in Florida. Learn to be safe and know what to expect.

Deep Diving

Some dives we do are deeper than 90 ft and spectacular. There are reefs and wrecks you will be able to dive up to 130 ft. This course will teach you how to safely plan a deeper dive. This is a must for the Advanced Diver.

Underwater Navigation

No matter where you dive, you have to be able to navigate back to your exit point. This course teaches you how to navigate your dive using your compass and using natural environmental navigation.

Limited Visibility/Night Diving

We often dive waters that are limited in visibility. Learn how to still enjoy your dive and be safe. We also enjoy some of the best diving on Night dives. Learn how to be safe and have fun on Night dives.

Stress and Rescue

There could an occasion when you or your buddy could use assistance or even a rescue. This course teaches you causes and effects stress can cause and what you can do to help. It also helps you in knowing what to do should you become overstressed on a dive yourself. For those wanting to seek a career in diving this course is required.

Underwater Digital Photography

Many divers are now able to share their dives with non-divers and other divers with underwater photography. This is a great course that teaches you about the different kinds of digital cameras from the simple point and shoots to the Digital SLR. You will learn to take frameable photographs even with your point and shoot cameras.

Underwater Archaeology

First taught by Stella Scott-Ireton as a Florida State Underwater Archaeologist several years ago for the BARR Divers. Now taught as an SSI Specialty course by the FPAN Florida Public Archaeology Network. This 4-day class teaches you the history of the shipwrecks in Florida, how to research and create a site map by diving the wreck and recording the remains. Classes can be scheduled for 6-10 students. The only class of this type taught in our area.

Spearfishing Specialty

This class is for the fishermen looking into learning to perfect your diving skills and underwater hunting skills. This is a great class even if you have been spearfishing. We invite experts to come and teach you different types of guns and accessories and techniques of hunting.

Fish Identification Class

Whether you are an underwater photographer, underwater hunter or just a casual diver that likes to know what you are looking at. This class will teach you to identify families of fish and the species by the markings, shapes and colorations each fish. We cover Gulf species and Caribbean species. This is a brand new course for SSI and will be taught by a representative for R.E.E.F. (Reef Environmental Educational Foundation)
